If you live near or in the wilmington area head down to the boat slips past the ferry and you can see rosy ibis. Most people are surprised to find a large pink heron like bird so close to home! It goes to show sometimes you should stop and look around you may just be surprised what you can find in your own backyard.

Do you mean Roseate Spoonbill? Normally extremely rare, but there are a bunch of Roseate Spoonbills in NC this summer. This place, called Federal Point, just south of Fort Fisher and the ferry terminal, is also the best place in the state to see the Queen butterfly. I photographed one at the ferry terminal a few weeks ago.

No, it's a white ibis hybrid if I remember right. I will try to take or find a pic to post.

As I'm sure you are aware the "rosie ibis" is not an official title but, rather a name I heard used growing up. They are not bright pink more of a light pink instead. Just wanted to be clear on that.

Wow, I've never heard of a White Ibis x Scarlet Ibis hybrid being seen in NC, though they have been found (nesting) in South Carolina. Let us know if you see it again!
